November 2011 Round up

Knowledge & Networking News

Dear Colleagues,

This will be the last update from the Chair this year and I can't believe how quickly it has flown by and what a busy year we have had at AIME.

We’ve grown our membership, set up the new Forward Look Group and Mobile Betting & Gaming Forum, progressed on all fronts with the working groups and worked hard on everyones’ behalf to see the smooth launch of the 12th Code and Registration Scheme.

As Paul Skeldon wrote in his Friday News article last week, 2011 has been a transformative year in more ways than one and the opportunities for telemedia are exciting.  We need to embrace these and also ensure that we continue to promote a robust self-regulatory regime, ensuring that new services are sustainable and what consumers want.

Your Trade Association has been flying the flag for members by speaking at three events over the past month all to do with the new world of payments, an area in which AIME has conducted its own research in this exciting growth area.  These events included:

  • AccessMobile Roadshow Europe at which AIME held a panel with members ImpulsePay, MIG, Paysafecard, Zamano and 3
  • Mobile National Day at which Chris Newell from ImpulsePay represented us
  • Apps World at which Vice-Chair Jeremy Flynn represented AIME

My thanks to all members who have put time and effort into these and indeed all of the others in 2011.

We’ll be looking forward to welcoming all members and guests to the AIME Christmas party on December 13th at Mary Jane's bar (please contact Bianca@aimelink.org to register).  This is kindly being sponsored by IMI Mobile and so a big thanks to them.

Your board is working hard to evolve AIME’s strategy and priorities in the coming months and I look forward to presenting an update at the next General Meeting early 2012.

All that leaves me to say, is a big thank you to the AIME Executive, headed by Toby, for all of their hard work and efforts.

Best wishes and a Merry Christmas to you all.

Edward Boddington

A milestone for Project Zebra: An app that incorporates a location-based digital experience in a home entertainment marketing campaign and helps incentivize DVD sales. How a UK-based startup showed its unique approach can help major brands add spice to their marketing.

A mobile application capturing the excitement of location-based activity to help drive people to the store to check out new entertainment products - TF3 Battle Zone, an application by UK-based mobile development startup Project Zebra Ltd., achieved just that: Attracting people, adding another layer to their experience of TRANSFORMERS™ and creating excitement for the home entertainment release of Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

TF3 Battle Zone serves as a prime example of how the combination of benefits from geo-social and mobile, multi-platform apps can deliver not only great entertainment to consumers, but also add pepper to a company’s marketing campaign. The app, which was commissioned only eight weeks before being launched in late September on iOS and Facebook, and then in early October on Android, has been Project Zebra’s most significant project since the company was founded in early 2011.

The objective of TF3 Battle Zone was simple, yet complex. By means of a free-to-download application available on a maximum number of handsets (and computers, because Facebook was also part of the plan), Paramount Home Entertainment wanted to support the marketing activities leading up to and following the release of the Transformers: Dark of the Moon Blu-ray and DVD. The application was developed to heighten the awareness of the release, incentivize consumers to interact with the product and with the ‘world’ of TRANSFORMERS, and reward them if they actually purchased the marketed product.
